    List Of All The Times ASUU Has Been To Strike From 1999 to 2018

    The Academic Staff of Union Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government of Nigeria usually get into conflict whenever there's funding imbalance to the Nigerian Universities or inadequate working and learning conditions amongst many other demands presented by the ASUU.
    Nevertheless, whenever the government's refuse to meet the union's demands since 1999 the union considers their only option to is to go on strike action and has happend almost every year since then(1999).
    Below is the compilation of the times ASUU went on strike since 1999.
    1. In 1999
    By just the end of the military era in 1999, Nigerians patronize democracy with a government waging heavy promises to be dedicated and citizen oriented. Not long afterwards, the Nigerian students began to experience a disruption in their academic calendar. Few months swearing in of the, Obasanjo and Atiku led administration , ASUU embarked on a nationwide strike as a protest which took the govt five months to reconcile.

    2. In 2001
    ASUU embarked on another strike for reasons relative to the reinstatement of  their 49 lecturers being sacked from the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN). The strike action was rekindled when the then Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo described Nigerian university lecturers as " a bunch of lazy and ungrateful people " The strike went on for three good months with the nigerian students kept stranded.
    3. In 2002
    Having made an agreement with with clear mandates within the two parties from previous strike, ASUU has nothing as an alternative but to go on another industrial action  by the 29th of December in 2002, when the Obasanjo and Atiku led administration refuses to implement the made agreement. This time the strike took them only two weeks to reconvene.
    4. In 2003
    By this year the Nigerian university undergraduates remained at home once more  for good six months for the case of another ASUU industrial action due to the govt failure to  implement the previous agreements, this includes inadequate funding of the institutions and disparity in salary and retirement age.
    5. In 2005
    The  university students in Nigeria once more experienced another holdup in their academic pursuits as this time like before universities lecturers went on another strike but thank God it lasted just two weeks then.

    6. In 2006
    During April of this fruitful academic year, activities were paused were in all public universities within the country when ASUU made a 3-day warning strike. Which goes off in one week.

    7. 2007
    The latest strike was preceeded by another on  26-3- 2007 which lasted this time for 3months. With reasons similar to that of 2006.
    8. 2008
    As at this year ASUU went on their usual strike action for one week. With regard to their demands for improved wages and to reinstate those 49 lecturers who were dismissed from the University of Ilorin in 2001.

    9. In 2009
    Public universities lecturers within Nigeria took on another strike that lasted for four good months which started in June and ended in October of the same year. Prior the calling off of the action,an agreement was attained. The breach of the agreement made this year by the two parties later became the reason behind the subsequent industrial action.
    10. In 2010
    This year also recorded another setback to the university students with regards to their academics when ASUU went on another strike which was tagged indefinite which consumed an aggregate of over five months counting from 22nd of  July 2010 to January of 2011.

    11. 2011
    While the federal government refused to respect the agreement formerly documented in 2009, ranging from adequately funding the universities to the implementation of the 70year limit for retirement age for the Academic union members, the union again ceased regular academic activities nationwide by December of 2011. This seizure lasted 59days till 2012.

    12. In 2013
    The Jonathan's led administration's failure increase the retirement age limit with regard to university professors from 65 to 70 years in conjunction to make available funding to revitalise the university education system, and other several reasons resulted into another strike action for 5 months and 15 days starting from July-1-2013 to Tuesday-December-17-2013.

    13. In 2017
    On August-17-2017, another indefinite strike action was declared upon by the Academic Staff Union Of Universities due to non-resolved and everlasting topics with the Federal Government. The strike was took down at September the same year.

    14. 2018
    Recently, the Federal Government's failure to meet ASUU demands was declared an indefinite nationwide strike action.
    The union stated the action on November-4-2018, as at this writing, the strike call-off should be a story of another day.
